Federal Funds to be used to improve student performance
West Virginia school districts are eligible for the funding.
Story by Dave Kirby
Federal funds from the U.S. Department of Education will be awarded to West Virginia, in an effort to revitalize and improve performance of low-achieving schools throughout the state. Approximately $21.9 million will be divided among individual school districts, where schools are determined to have failed to meet annual academic goals.
The funds will be used to turn around West Virginia's persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants Program. The announcement about the funding came from U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall's, D-W.Va., office. The funding is being made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Rahall strongly supported.
