ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

      General Assignments and Relationships:
      The Organizational Development Specialist will perform a wide variety of membership recruitment and organizing services for the national, state and local affiliates, as well as for individual members.  The Organizational Development Specialist shall work under the direct supervision of the Director of Field Services. 

      Specific Responsibilities:
      -  Identify, recruit and retain members and leaders in the local, state and national organizations.

      - Provide organizing assistance to build local Association’s capacity.

      - Maintain liaison between the general membership and the local, state and national  organizations.

      - Serve as consultant to the officers of local Associations in their effort to strengthen program, organizational structure and procedure.

      - Assist members in contacting the Help Desk to seek information, discuss complaints and to discuss alleged grievances, other due process matters, and problem resolution.

      - Plan and conduct trainings designed to develop leadership skills needed to establish strong local Associations and to assist members in dealing with current issues and challenges.

      - Motivate and maintain membership and achieve organizational goals.

      - Take an active role in organizational development to create strong locals.

      - Perform other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Field Services and/or Executive Director.

      Qualifications:
      - Must have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

      - Prior field staff or Association elected leadership experience preferred.

      - Experience with membership recruitment, organizing and organizational development preferred.

      - Experience in grievance representation both oral and written preferred.

      - Ability to perform duties listed above.

      - Willingness to travel extensively and relocate when necessary.

      - Ability to comply with and implement directives.

      - Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

      - Experience with assisting employees in stressful situations such as strikes, grievances, transfers, suspensions, and terminations.

      - Demonstrated ability to transfer organizational goals and objectives into programs.  Experience in developing strong locals preferred.

      - Demonstrated ability as a strong school employee and Association advocate.

      - Demonstrated ability to develop and present proposals to boards of education with supportive back-up data.

      - Experience in newsletter production preferred.

      - Ability to handle personal stress and confrontation.

      - Ability to devote long hours to the position including extensive evening work.

      - Demonstrated ability to identify and implement alternative (organizing) solutions.

      - Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Power Point, and other computer applications preferred.

      Compensation:
      Commensurate with experience, in accordance with the current staff agreement.   Staff car and liberal benefit package provided.
