Congratulations to Debbie Sloat, the inaugural recipient of the Spirit of Land Grant Award! On June 17, 2024, West Virginia University President Gordon Gee and WVEA President Dale Lee presented Debbie with a plaque of the original Land Grant from Abraham Lincoln to our state, alongside $500 to benefit her children.
“WVU and WVEA have been honoring a teacher with an honorary doctorate for the last two years. We realized the important role that our service personnel play in the daily lives of our students and wanted to honor that commitment. The Spirit of Land Grant Award was a way to recognize the hard work and dedication of our service personnel. Debbie Sloat epitomizes the dedication and is most deserving of being the first recipient of this prestigious award,” said WVEA President Dale Lee.
“Your hard work and dedication, Debbie, are truly remarkable and deeply valued by our students. You have been a great leader to this community,” said WVU President Gordon Gee.
