CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice hinted Monday there will soon be an announcement about what will happen with the schools in the state after April 30.
That’s currently the last day of Justice’s previous closure order. He said he met with state School Superintendent Clayton Burch Monday to discuss the next step.
“Clayton is on top of this in every way. I think you’ll be hearing from us real soon on what the next steps are going to be,” Justice said at his coronavirus media briefing Monday.
Justice repeated Monday his desire to have kids return to their school buildings before the school year is over if that’s possible. But he also said it wouldn’t be done at the expense of safety.
“I will not in any way, in any way, put kids back in a situation that could cause a potential problem for the kids or the parents or the grandparents or whoever it may be,” Justice said.
Teachers in most of the state’s 55 school districts are currently connecting with their students online. They are using different methods.
