NEA grant enhances Mason County elementary music program

Dwayne RussellMason County member Dwayne Russell was awarded a $5,000 NEA Foundation grant to boost physical activity and lifestyle wellness levels among students and staff at Beale Elementary School in Gallipolis Ferry, WV. He and his teaching partner, Betina Leslie, will launch the program with a workshop for teachers and a performance for students by Jack Hartmann, a musical artist who authors a wide selection of children’s educational music that incorporates learning and movement.

Physical education, music and other teachers will use Hartmann’s songs/videos, and material to support physical activity during instructional time, indoor recess and “get up and move” brain breaks. Listen to songs/videos at Jack Hartmann’s YouTube channel.
