During an extraordinary year, students knew they could count on their teacher
Thank a teacher this week!
Charleston—This is National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6) and tomorrow (May 4) is National Teacher Appreciation Day. These events come at the end of one of the toughest school years educators have ever had to deal with. Teachers across the state stepped up during these unprecedented times to make sure that every student was not only educated but fed and cared for. Teachers have gone above and beyond for their students and WVEA President Dale Lee encourages everyone to take this week and thank educators for all they do.
“Our educators found creative ways to reach and teach our students during this COVID-19 pandemic, supporting our students’ families and working longer, harder and more creatively than ever before,” said Lee. “One of the toughest jobs of the COVID crisis was online school. It was difficult for everyone and the things our teachers did to think outside the box is truly extraordinary.”
“Teachers make it happen,” he added. “Whenever, wherever you see a teacher – show your appreciation.”
WVEA is celebrating teachers
WVEA is celebrating and thanking educators this week online using the #ThankATeacher hashtag. On WVEA’s social media (@IamWVEA) find fillable thank you cards, shareable memes and various ways to thank educators.
Also online are the winners of WVEA’s first ever “#ThankATeacher Like You Meme It” contest this week: Willa Hardy, a 5th grader at Hillsboro Elementary in Pocahontas County and a 5th grade teacher Patricia Syner, who teaches at Anstead Elementary School in Fayette County. The meme contest was intended to provide a fun and creative way to thank the extraordinary educators who have worked tirelessly with students and families.
